Workforce Planning

  • Clients - Our past and current clients include Ministries of Health in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Nova Scotia, the B.C. Interior Health Authority, the Calgary Zone of the provincial Alberta Health Services (AHS) health authority, Faculties of Medicine, among others.
  • Experience - Our experience includes province-wide comprehensive physician workforce planning (i.e., Nova Scotia), comprehensive physician workforce planning in rural and remote areas (i.e., B.C. Interior Health Authority), quaternary and tertiary specialist workforce planning for large referral catchment areas (i.e., Calgary Zone of AHS), and academic clinical workforce planning across all specialties and family medicine. We have conducted specialty-specific workforce planning across virtually all RCPSC and CFPC disciplines, both academic and community-based.
  • Expertise - Our expertise is extensive and spans provincial, regional, and local planning as relates to strategy and policy, stakeholder engagement, forecasting, modeling, and implementation.
  • Skills - Our skill set includes the ability to effectively manage large, complex multi-stakeholder projects, design, build, and deliver effective models. Our models incorporate the many key determinants of supply, need, and demand into an integrated, comprehensive assessment of current and future needs.

Physician Alternate Funding Planning

  • Clients - Our past and current clients include Ministries of Health in Alberta and Saskatchewan, University Faculties of Medicine based in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, and Saskatoon, and Health Authorities in B.C., Alberta, and Saskatchewan.
  • Experience - Our experience includes design and development of a province-wide Academic Alternate Relationship Plan Framework and design and development of specialty-specific alternate funding plans (clinical and clinical/academic). In family medicine we have worked with primary care networks, community family practices, academic departments, and capitated family practices. Our work has included business process reengineering, information systems, alternate funding, and office practice design.
  • Expertise - Our expertise spans the core elements of governance, service, contracting, accountability, compensation, and funding. We expertly integrate AFP design into broader health system planning and policy and service delivery planning.
  • Skills - Our skill set includes design and delivery of AFP supporting management information systems to manage financial, service, and accountability reporting. We custom design and apply time tracking studies using handheld devices to inform the service delivery model at a more refined level. We are expert in the complex area of compensation model design and benchmarking.

Costing

We are experienced in health service costing in tertiary, secondary, and primary care settings at a procedure, program, or facility level. We have worked extensively with the CIHI MIS Guidelines at a facility and patient-specific level. We have developed cost analysis for new facilities at the planning stage.

Budgeting

We have successfully completed many budget development projects requiring activity-based, zero-based, step-wise, and other methodologies. We have finely tuned simulation models for budgeting that incorporate benchmarks and comparison values and have been refined over many projects.

Policy Research and Development

Our policy development framework is outcome focused and evidence-based. Careful analysis of points of integration are essential to seamless policy implementation. We work closely with local, provincial, and national clients in health workforce, health expenditure, health insurance, and performance evaluation policy formulation.

Business Planning

Successful achievement of organizational mission, vision, and strategies is reliant upon a well designed effectively executed business plan. We follow a rigorous results focused business planning methodology linking strategy to objectives to actions and results.

We regularly facilitate multi-stakeholder projects in our areas of expertise. Effective facilitation requires excellent communication skills supported by in-depth content expertise. In our areas of expertise we have consistently demonstrated excellent facilitation skills in complex multi-stakeholder projects.
